Thursday Thunks - 7/30/09
Thursday Thunk is a blogging meme that gives you something to blog about. Find out what I think about weird, random and sometimes inappropriate things (I usually just delete those questions, in case you notice the numbering off). If you want to read what others thunk, click the Thursday Thunks button above. (possible content warning). Happy Thunking!
1. You are in an enclosed space with a group of friends. Elevator, auto, small room, etc.. You fart and it really stinks. Do you take credit for it or do you play along with the questioning of who did it? I'm in an enclosed space with a group of friends weekly. And weekly one of them (not me) has bad gas. If I ever let a stinker go I'd be sure to take credit for it. I've endured enough of theirs.
2. You are locked in a room sitting at a desk with just a piece of paper and a purple crayon. What do you draw? Doodles. Hearts. Stars. Swirls.
3. Do you ever pee in the shower? yep.
4. Have you bought, sold or got rid of something on Craigslist? Sure. I also use Freecycle to give stuff away. I have this weird thing that keeps happening. Whenever I post something, one of my friends contacts me about the item. Problem is... she is never first and usually I've already engaged the first contact for the transaction. Next time I have something to giveaway, I'm going to call CathyAnn first.
5. You are in a convenience store. In the line in front of you is a drunk guy trying to purchase more alcohol. The cashier tells him they cannot sell it to him because he is obviously already intoxicated. He gets belligerent. The cashier is scared. What do you do? Step away from the counter and call 911.
6. While shopping for produce, do you "sample" before you buy (i.e. grapes)? Only if samples are being offered... like at Farmer's Market.
7. You are walking down the street and there is a toddler sitting on a bench by themselves in front of a store - do you just keep walking? I'd try to find who the toddler belonged to. If I couldn't immediately figure it out, I'd probably sit next to the toddler and wait for a little while.
8. Have you looked up an old friend and/or lover online? Nope. I'm an out of sight, out of mind kinda gal. If you move, you'd better stay in contact with me if you want to remain friends or come visit me at the beach.
9. You are nearly in a car/auto accident. Do you freak out, follow the person who nearly caused it & talk to them or just keep going? Just keep going.

Thursday Thunks - 7/23/09
Thursday Thunk is a blogging meme that gives you something to blog about. Find out what I think about weird, random and sometimes inappropriate things (I usually just delete those questions, in case you notice the numbering off). Happy Thunking!
1. You walk into a store and the cashier is being held up by a robber. The robber's accomplice is dead on the floor at your feet with a shotgun laying next to him. The robber does not see you, but the cashier does - what do you do? Most likely I'd pee my pants and freeze.
2. We go to an ice cream shop for an ice cream cone. You say you are buying and I am going to stay in the car. You ask me what I want and I say "surprise me", what kind of ice cream cone am I going to get? I'd buy two cones that I'd think you'd like and then let you pick. If you're Surferman, I'd get a sherbert or sorbet and then something really chocolately. We usually end up sharing anyway, so I guess it's not a good example.
3. You have a dream that your co-worker, friend or whoever is hit by a garbage truck after they back into a ladder with a black cat on it. The next day you see that person standing by a ladder with a black cat on it and there is a garbage truck driving down the road.... what do you do? I'd probably call the person toward me, away from the ladder. But then, that might startle her and cause her to move in front of the garbage truck that is going to plow her down. I'm not sure I can win with this question.
4. What is the most money you've won on a lottery or scratch off ticket? Surferman won $2000 dollars from a scratcher once. I don't buy lottery tickets. Surferman buys them for me at Christmas sometimes. I think I've won a ticket a couple of times and maybe at most $10. I think they are a waste of money.
5. A neighbor kid down the street comes to your door and offers to wash all of your windows outside for $10 - do you have him do it? I'd arrange to have him do it and if he did a good job I'd probably pay him more.
6. Go to Google Images. Type in the name of the last movie you saw. Post the first picture that comes up. Grom and I watched "Five Chinese Brothers" when we studied "The Story About Ping" last week.
7. Your local animal shelter calls you and says there are 3 dogs that need an immediate foster home for 3 days. If you do not accept, the dogs are put down that day. Do you take them in? Nope. I'm not an animal person. And our yard isn't great for dogs. Faced with such a situation, I might be coerced to donate some money to pay for their care, but even that is doubtful. I've gotten really good at saying no on the phone.
8. What is the messiest room in your home? Probably my studio. It is still full of garage sale stuff and papers that need to be filed.
9. Have you ever been to a wedding that participated in a strange tradition that you had never heard of? We were invited to a wedding that I expected to be full of strange traditions that weren't Biblical. Surferman and I decided not to attend.
10. Name one sport that you just don't get. I'm not a big sports fan, but can see what people like about their sports. Marathon running is hard for me to understand. It's such a physical attack on your body. They lose toenails for goodness sake.
11. What was the last email that came into your inbox about? "Grab 38 Free Gifts-Only 100 Packages Available" - an offer from a homeschool curriculum vendor.
13. Go back to that Google Images link... type in the last food item that you ate. Post the 2nd picture it comes up with.
14. Got any bumper stickers on your vehicle? What are they? I have 3 orange hibiscus flowers on the back of my van. Also a "Jesus is Lord" license plate frame. I keep meaning to put a Soujourner Surfboards sticker on my car. They are good friends of our family and I'd love to support them in whatever way I can.
15. What meme question do you wish was never asked again? Questions that are too personal or too much information to share. The ones I delete. Oh, and questions with swear words.

Thursday Thunks - 7/8/09
Thursday Thunk is a blogging meme that gives you something to blog about. Find out what I think about weird, random and sometimes inappropriate things (I usually just delete those questions, in case you notice the numbering off). Happy Thunking!
1. Do you tend to have a guilty conscious? No.
2. Do you still have your wisdom teeth? Never had any. I'm genetically superior.
3. Peanut Butter - creamy or crunchy? either... it depends on my mood.
4. Get up off your butt. Take 5 steps. Which leg did you start out on? right
5. What color is your favorite kitchen utensil? Wow, surprisingly a hard question. I have a lot of "favorite" kitchen utensils. I guess if I had to choose one it would be the red silicon scraper. It has a black handle.
6. Did you watch the Michael Jackson memorial/funeral? No way! It's VBS week for one. And who has time for such things. He was a strange man. It amazes me how quickly everyone changed their song and claimed him as their own. Ashes to ashes...
7. Do you know anyone who graduated from high school this year? A good friend's daughter.
Were you invited to their graduation party? Did you go? Yep. You betcha. Wouldn't have missed it.
8. White with black stripes or black with white stripes? White with black stripes I guess.
9. If we were to call your 6th grade teacher, what would they say about you? Robin, who? Seriously I think she'd remember me as a sweet kid who was smart and helpful.
10. Can you draw a perfect circle? not perfect, but good enough.
11. What was your favorite scratch & sniff sticker scent? lemon. Although they all smell not quite right.
12. What does your sibling do for a living? She's a stay at home mommy and just started being her church's secretary. It looks like church secretaring runs in the family.
13. How many light switches and electrical outlets are in the room that you are in right now? One light switch. Four electrical outlets. I'm in my studio.
14. Do you know sign language? Just a few signs. The usual baby ones and some for teaching Bible Verses with hand motions.
15. Do you step on cracks in the sidewalk? Sure, if they are under my feet.
16. And the sheets on your bed look like....? A bright Hawaiian floral - orange, lime green, gold and rust.
17. What is something that everyone else has, but you don't? Lately? A Baby.

Thursday Thunks - 6/25/09
Thursday Thunk is a blogging meme that gives you something to blog about. Find out what I think about weird, random and sometimes inappropriate things (I usually just delete those questions, in case you notice the numbering off). Happy Thunking!
1. Someone knocks at your door. You answer it. It's a kid from the local school selling candy bars for a fundraiser. Do you buy one?
Probably. I'm a sucker for kids who have to sell stuff for school.
2. The end of the world is tomorrow and you are out of milk - do you go buy some?
I wouldn't buy milk, but instead probably half-n-half. I use milk in my coffee every morning. But... if it was the end of the world... I'd splurge and buy half-n-half.
3. Have you ever picked up the phone and called someone that you hadn't talked to in years?
Nope. Out of sight, out of mind. I tend to focus on the people in direct view. If you want to stay my friend... don't move. I have less than a handful of friends that I keep in touch with who don't live in my county.
4. Whats on your computer desktop background?
A beautiful summer wallpaper from the Kindred site by Sarah Ahearn. Go look at it. It's really pretty and very cool. I love it.
5. What was the very first movie you saw in a movie theater?
I remember being really scared by Fantasia at a theater. It was so real, I swear I saw it live. I also remember seeing Song of the South at a Drive-In. I'm dating myself. WAIT! I just googled Song of the South and see that it was released in 1946 so something is wrong with that memory. I'm not THAT old. And... I googled Fantasia and it was released in 1940. Maybe these are my mother's memories?
6. If you had to take a 10th grade science test, do you think you would pass?
Walking in cold... probably not. If I had a chance to review the material for a little while... I think so.
7. Describe heaven.
A place without sadness, illness, trouble where I will dwell for eternity in the presence of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
8. Has a place that you lived ever been infested with some sort of insect or rodent?
Unfortunately, yes. When I lived in Tennessee, my apartment was full of cockroaches. I found out the landlord was regularly spraying when I wasn't home, and not notifying me that she was going to or had sprayed. Since I valued my health, I asked her not to spray without telling me. She kept spraying the other apartments and my apartment became roach haven.
9. When you were a youngin', did you hide in the clothes racks at department stores?
Of course!
10. Is there anything in your vehicle that is broken?
Just the CD player. Unfortunately though, my wonderful minivan is starting to show it's age.
11. What is something in your house that people would be surprise to find?
A dead skunk hat. My dad just brought one home from a trip for Grom. It's amazingly gross. I'm not sure what he was thinking.
12. Do you agree with the death penalty?
If it's carried out, I agree with it. If it's not, than why bother. Swift justice.
13. Whats your favorite type of bear?
This one. Real bear? Probably a polar bear.
14. Where was the last place you went?
To my friends house to get some cupcake holders for my sister. My sister is making a billion cupcakes for the Girlies' BirthdayExtravaganza Party. I'm looking forward to eat one or three.
15. What if that person knocking at your door earlier was an adult selling candy bars... would you buy one?
Probably not.

Thursday Thunks - 5/30/09
Thursday Thunk is a blogging meme that gives you something to blog about. I do it to add to the biographical quality of my blog. Think of it as another way to get to know me. 21. How many states have you been in?
33 as I remember
22. If a sexist Man is called a pig, what is a sexist Woman called?

Pray, for my heart and that person.
24. How many states are to the right of you? And don’t give us a map to look at.
Uhh 46

33. What was your favorite toy as a child?
I hate to admit it, but I was quite the Barbie girl.

Thursday Thunks - 5/21/09
I'm back to thunkings on Thursdays.
Thursday Thunk is a blogging meme that gives you something to blog about. I do it to add to the biographical quality of my blog. Think of it as another way to get to know me.
1. Have you seen the new Star Trek movie, and if so what did you think?
Nope. Surferman and I don't go to the movies very often. I guess we're cheap that way. We have been to the drive-in a few times lately. It's less expensive and a double feature.
2. Which popular sitcom character (past or present) are you most like?
I have no idea. Who do you think I'm like?
3. What kind of dreams do you have?
I seem to have two kinds of dreams. Really long drawn out dreams that are like watching a movie except that the story is so screwy that even as I experience the dream I know it's a dream. My recurring nightmare is that I'm in school and have to go take a final exam for a class that I never went to. It's usually Sociology class for what it's worth.
4. Go get a tattoo and come back. Right, now answer me this, what is it?
If I ever went to get a tattoo, I'd probably come back with my ears pierced instead. I've always wanted to pierce my targus but am to chicken to go to a tattoo place or go through with the piercing. I'd probably have to be kidnapped to have go through with it.
5. Do you think you could be on American Idol with the singing voice you have now without any voice training?
Only if I could do all of my performances in the shower or my car...
6. How much wood, would a woodchuck chuck? If a woodchuck could chuck wood?
a woodchuck would chuck a chunk of wood
7. If you were a tree in a Dr. Seuss book, what would you look like?
Tall and wide. Orange with random blue spots.
8. Twilight? I'm addicted/Who cares/What the heck is Twilight?
I've heard of it. It's about vampires which isn't a subject matter that I seek out.
10. What the worst injury you've ever had?
I'm guessing that injury doesn't include post surgery. So I'm guessing the really bad case of plantar fasciitis I had a couple of years ago. If you'd count surgery, then it would have to be the c-section which brought the beautiful Grom into this world.
11. What is your favorite dessert?
I scream... you scream... we all scream... for ICE CREAM! Ben and Jerry's everything but the...
12. What do you prefer...beach or mountains?
Beach. I live at the beach.
13. What movie have you seen that still makes you cry?
I don't remember movies very well. I enjoy them while I'm watching, but can rarely tell someone more than a basic basic plot more than a week later.
15. How often do you do laundry?
Seemingly constantly. 3 times a week. Laundry is my least favorite homemaking task.
16. What is your favorite movie of all time, and why?
see number 13. The only movie that comes close to favorite status is The Princess Bride. It's probably been 5 years since I've seen it. It has a fun, clean story and Mandy Patinkin.
17. If you won a million dollars in the lottery, would you keep working?
The lottery only pays a little bit every year. After taxes... we'd probably need to keep working. I might not work in the same manner that I work now. Maybe Surferman and I would use the money to start our own business?
18. If there was a war of the gummies, would you be on the gummi bear side or the gummi worm side?
Who thinks of these things? I'm for the sour gummies whatever they look like. It's all about taste.
19. What's your favorite comic strip?
Peanuts. I love the whole gang... Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Peppermint Patty...
20. Close your eyes… imagine you are in the perfect room/place… describe it.
On a beach on Maui... sitting in my beach chair... in the shade... listening to my ipod... with an iced coffee.

Thursday Thunks - 4/16/09
Thursday Thunk is a blogging meme that gives you something to blog about. I joined to add to the biographical quality of my blog. Think of it as another way to get to know me.
1. Have you ever been sucked in to the latest "thing"? (Like Harry Potter, the movie Titanic, social networking, etc. etc. etc.)
I got sucked into Facebook. I'll say it again... I don't really get it.
2. What software do you use for your email?
Mail. I use a Mac.
3. Are you comfortable being nude?
Ummm... in the shower, yes. Otherwise... not so much.
4. What is something you plan on doing this summer?
Lots of fun with Grom... swimming lessons, VBS, letterboxing, lots of bocce... maybe Disneyland.
5. Do you have a favorite movie/book quote? If so, what is it?
"Have fun storming the castle" from the Princess Bride. I used to say it all the time to Surferman as he left for work. Lately, I say, "No, I'm not asleep and I promise I'll get out of bed right after you leave." Silly Surferman buys it everytime.
6. How many email addresses do you have?
3 that I check regularly and a couple more that forward to ones that I check regularly. And one that I gave over to SPAM.
7. Is the sky falling?
Not usually.
8. Have you been to the Grand Canyon?
Yep. I was a kid. I have vague memories and not much desire to go back.
9. When was the last time you mailed a hand written letter?
A couple of months ago.

10. Give us some random facts about you.
I moved to Tennessee when I graduated from college.
I have really big feet.
I'm afraid I'll find a dead body in the dumpster at church.

Thursday Thunks - 4/4/09
So it's Saturday... send the Thursday Thunks police.
Thursday Thunk is a blogging meme that gives you something to blog about. I joined to add to the biographical quality of my blog. Think of it as another way to get to know me.
1. Did you play any April Fools jokes on anyone or have a joke played on you?
Nope. Not this year.
2. If you could be on any non-reality TV show as a guest star or star, which one would it be and why?
ER. Probably because it's fresh on my mind and the series finale was a couple of days ago. I watched it all the way through. It was quite a show. I could be a patient.
3. Do you crack your knuckles?
No. Yuck.
4. If you remember your first day of kindergarten, were you scared or excited? If you have kids or grandkids, were they scared or excited?
I don't remember my first day of kindergarten. Grom will be stating kindergarten in the fall. If he goes to school I'm sure I'll let you all know how his first day went.
5. If you are in the shower, hear the fire alarm going off and smell smoke/see flames, will you just run out of the house with a towel on or grab some clothes & dress as you run out?
I keep clothes (at least a robe) in the bathroom so I'd get my clothes on before I ran out.
6. Last week the Thursday Thunkers asked about your Daddy (twice), so this week tell us a little about your Mom.
My mom is great. She is creative and loving and generous.
7. Which search engine do you use most often?
I am the self-appointed Queen of the Google search. I can get the answer to most any question rather quickly and can always find a great deal on whatever crazy thing I need to buy for work. Last week it was glow sticks.
8. Did you participate in Earth Hour?
No.
9. What was the last new-to-you movie you watched? Was it in the theater or on DVD? Was it
good?
Made of Honor. We "watched it now" on Netflix. I couldn't get past the fact that they were trying to shave 10+ years off Patrick Dempsey and that the coffee sleeve was invented after I'd been using them for years.
10. If you do something embarrassing, do you laugh it off, or sit & worry about it?
Laugh it off.
11. Where is your favorite spot in your home to sit & relax?
Probably in our front room on a red leather couch with a decaf latte.

Carpeted. Grom and I went to City Rec to look into sports. I don't think he's going to be playing anything organized this Spring.
2. Green or purple grapes?

7. Which celebrity should be flown into outer space or placed on a desert island?
Tom Cruise.
8. Would you support schools changing the "open" time? Such as 10am - 5pm, for example?
I'd listen if they had a good reason. I think school getting out at 5pm would mess up family dinner time and keep kids up later.
9. Do you go fishing?
Nope. To slow for me.
10. What question should we ask next week?
I googled "list of random questions". Here's some ideas.

2. What is one fantasy that you want to come true more than any other?
The one where I wake up a "normal" weight with great hair.

I found my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. There is nothing else to consider. It's all about Jesus.
10. What word do you use far too often?
Actually 2 words... "Yes, Grom". He says, "Mommy?". I reply, "Yes, Grom". And he say, "Mommy?"...all day long...
11. How long do you spend in the shower?
Surferman and I were just talking about this. We both spend too long in the shower. I think I'm in for about 20 minutes. Suferman and Grom usually shower together and they can be in there for over 1/2 hour. We need to get a timer.
12. If you were to write a personal ad about yourself, what would it say?
I don't know why I'd write a personal ad. If I had to it would probably be funny.
13. Your favorite flavor of soup is....?

Thursday Thunks - 2/26/09
Thursday Thunk is a blogging meme that gives you something to blog about. I joined to add to the biographical quality of my blog. Think of it as another way to get to know me.
1. What kind of dryer sheets do you use?
1. What kind of dryer sheets do you use?
I don't use dryer sheets. Too many chemicals, the scent is too strong and I'm too cheap. I use white vinegar in the rinse cycle. If I want a little fragrance, a couple of drops of lavender essential oil on a washcloth gets tossed in the dryer.
2. How many times a week do you eat out/order in?
if you count all meals... 5 or 6 times. Recently though, Surferman keeps saying stuff like, "Dave Ramsey would eat at home." Sometimes I don't like Dave Ramsey. I think we'll be down to 2 or 3 times.
3. What did you do the night of your high school graduation?
They had a Grad Night at my High School... carnival rides, In'N'Out burgers, games, haircuts and more.
4. So Octomom is rumored to have been offered a million bucks to do a porno. Would you do it for a million?
Never.
5. If your child was born with an extra finger or toe, would you have it surgically removed?
Only if it was medically necessary. God knows every hair on our heads... I know He has a plan for every finger and toe too.
6. What was the last movie you saw?
Grand Torino. At the drive-in with Surferman. It was the 2nd feature.
7. I wanna buy you a dozen roses, what color should they be?
Orange, of course.
8. You are walking across the street, you are not quite half way when a speeding car comes... you have to run to get out of its way, which direction do you run?
To the nearest curb.
9. Tell us about a time when you were invited over somewhere and had the most awful time.
Can't think of a time to share with you all. My memory is bad that way. Bad experiences don't last very long unless it's with a business... then I can sure hold a grudge.
10. You open your front door and there is a box with a puppy in it... what do you do?
This is really unfair. What kind of a person would door bell ditch and leave a cute little puppy? Pets are great as long as they are someone else's. Don't throw tomatoes, but I'd probably take it to the Animal Shelter. Hopefully it would be adopted by someone who loved it and wanted a pet.

Thursday Thunks - 2/19/09
1. What brand & flavor of toothpaste do you use?
My newest favorite is Melaleuca's Fresh Mint Toothpaste (it's in the shower). My other choices are Pepsodent (when I can find it) and Listerine Toothpaste (again hard to find).2. What is your earliest memory?
I have lots of memories related to photographs. I'm not sure those are true memories or that I remember what people have told me about the photo. I do remember telling my first grade teacher that my mom had a baby boy that they named after my dad. The gig was up when she showed up at the house with a baby gift. I remember hiding under my desk because I knew I was in big trouble.3. Hot Dogs or Hamburgers?
both - but I only eat high quality hot dogs anymore.4. If you could bring any one famous person back to life, who would it be?
I don't know who exactly. I'd need to do some research. I'd find a contemporary person who people would listen to who I was pretty sure didn't recognize Jesus as the son of God and as Savior of the world. After being in hell, I'm sure he'd be very an excellent evangelist.5. What is one thing we would always find in your fridge... what one thing would we never find?
Always... peanut butter. Never... severed heads.6. Did you have to go and look for the answer of #1?
I had to google the name of the Maleleuca toothpaste.7. Why don't watermelons grow on trees?
Can you imagine the mess from downed fruit?8. What is something that you own that you should probably just throw in the trash, but you never will?
Super old tax returns9. I push you into a room and lock the door. I leave you there for 6 hours. The walls are chalkboards and in the middle of the room there is a box of colored chalk. What will be written/drawn on the walls when I let you out?

Cell phones.13. Have you ever wanted someone or something so bad that it hurt?
A baby. Grom was a miracle from God.14. What do you dip your french fries in?
Ketchup. I like to dip them in ranch, but have decided that french fries are bad enough. At least with ketchup I get some lycopene.15. What was the last picture that you took?
Grom and my dad have a disagreement about the surfboard rugs in the hall. My dad likes them turned at angles. Grom likes them straight. They have an odd day / even day arrangement for them to be straight or crooked. Here's Grom gloating that they are straight on a crooked day.Read what others are thunking this Thursday.

Puddles, Google, College, Sugar Highs and whatnot
1. You are driving down the road and there is a puddle in the road. A big puddle. Not one that will really wreck your car or anything, but a big puddle. There is no other cars in front of you or behind you - do you drive through the puddle or drive around it?
If there are no other cars, I'll move to avoid the puddle. It is fun though to drive through a huge puddle... love the sound it makes on the underside of my car.
2. Go to Google Images, type in any word that comes to mind and post the 1st picture you see.
3. A college calls you up and says that you have been selected to take get any degree that you want on their dollar.... what do you choose?
I always wanted to be a doctor. Now though... I don't know if I'd want to invest the time.
4. Are you blogging on a laptop or desktop?
My lovely wonderful Macbook laptop. I love my laptop.
5. Which store, excluding a grocery store, do you shop at most often?
I'm ashamed to say, but don't think anyone who knows me would be surprised, STARBUCKS.
6. My daughters tried out for the school musical last night. Were you ever in a school play/musical? Which one?
Only as class assigments. I don't remember any of the plays names.
7. I read yesterday that a school PTA group wants to try to ban white bread, cakes, brownies or any other "treat" from their lunch menus... plus make kids' lunchboxes brought from home not include any "junk food". Thoughts on that one?
Ridiculous! Those people need to get a life and stay out of my kids lunch box.
8. How many people can your kitchen table seat?
With leaves we've had 14.
9. What time is it right now?
9:32 pm
10. Walk out the front door of your house/apartment, turn right, walk 2 blocks. What do you see?
The ocean, a highway and a cemetary.

Blogs Hunting Volcanoes While Dealing with Angry Celebs Eating Pickles and Much More
1. What is one of your favorite blogs to read? Why is it your favorite?
Making Home Jess is gifted by God as an encourager and a teacher. When I open my Bloglines and see that she has posted something new, I get excited and then scared. Nine times out of ten, she hits me between the eyes with something that I need to surrender to the Lord, or deal with. She is straight forward and honest, speaking the truth in love.

Only if garage sales count... I'm always hunting for a bargain or something I need.

3. Do you live near any active volcanoes?
I live near an active nuclear power plant, so I sure hope there aren't any active volcanoes nearby.

4. If VH1 came out with a new reality show called Celebrity Anger Management, who would you most like to see on the show?
I don't know. I don't pay much attention to the doings of "celebrities".

5. Would you drink horse's milk if offered?
I'd try it. Do they make chocolate horse milk? Or horse lattes?

6. Do you buy pickles? If so, what do you do with the juice after all the pickles are gone?
Dill pickles are yummy. I usually throw it away, but I read that you can refill the jar with sliced cucumbers and turn them into makeshift pickles. I'm trying that next time.

7. Do you have a myspace or Facebook account?
I recently joined Facebook because of good friends who moved to their mission field in Kenya. I don't get it. I may just delete my account or give myself a funny alias so I can keep up with the Pottengers but not be bothered with the rest of it. Is that bad?

8. Facial hair on men, yea or nay?
I like the look of 5 o'clock shadow. Don't like the 80 grit sandpaper feel of it on my soft check. I really like a soft, smooth face.

10. Have you downloaded Skype and use it?
Not on this computer.

Thursday Thunks - 1/29/09
1. Have you ever felt alone, but yet there are people around you?
My parents have taken Grom on vacation a few times. Sometimes Surferman and I get to where we are being alone together - just not connecting. I usually don't let it last very long.
2. Do you have any video game consoles? Which ones?
nope
3. Do you freak out at food warnings/outbreaks, such as the recent peanut butter salmonella scare?
I don't freak out. I think about what products I might have and see if I'm effected. It's very matter of fact, not hysterical.
4. What color/pattern is your beds' comforter/bedspread?
Right now we have a blue and orange quilt (broken dishes) on our bed. Our sheets are navy, rose and maroon. The comforters is tangerine sherbet colored.
5. How many windows do you have in your house?
My home is not normal. It's big, but has small rooms. Believe it or not we have 35 windows. That doesn't count doors with windows in them.
6. Name six things that are in your bathroom.
I'm going to try to come up with things that might not be in yours.
- 1 oak dresser
- 2 fake plants
- 3 toothbrushes
- 4 Harbor Freight catalogs
- 5 headbands (love a good headband)
- 6 or more african violets
7. How big is your garage? Should it be bigger?
We don't have a garage. We have an almost falling down, semi-enclosed, metal roofed utility room. It is our laundry room, pantry and storage. No cars. I would love to tear it down and turn it into a proper garage or even a car port, but I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon.
8. Got your taxes done yet?
nope. Don't have my W-whatever yet, so I can't even think about it.
9. Think of a mental disorder..... why did you think of that particular one?
Schizophrenia. A good friend was affected by schizophrenia for a good part of her life. She live in perpetual hope that the next new drug would be the one that really helped.

Thursday Thunks - 1/22/09
1. Obama tattoos. What do you think of people who got one?
Obama tattoos? That's the dumbest thing I've heard lately. Have you ever seen a tattoo on an old person... U G L Y ... that's all I'm saying

2. How many blogs do you read a day, and do you always comment?
I have 135 feeds in Bloglines. I do a good job of keeping up with them. I comment occasionally. Sometimes I get behind and dump them to start over. I'm constantly evaluating if I want to keep up with a blogger.
Yep.
4. Describe your favorite shirt.
I'm wearing it right now. It's a beautiful deep purple color with short sleeves and some fun detail around the neckline - pleats that are sewn into Xs kinda. It's hard to explain. It's soft and comfortable and I always get compliments when I wear it. I think I got it at Target, so it was a deal too.

8. If you are driving in the rain and you see a person walking along the road, do you intentionally try to splash them?
NO! That's mean.
NO! That's mean.
9. Yearbooks- do you still have any from school? I don't think so. I did Yearbook all through High School and was the Managing Editor my Senior Year. I had all my High School Memories in a box in the garage that got filled with water when the roof leaked. I believe the Yearbooks were casualties. I'm ok with it.... now.
10. What kind of shampoo do you use?
John Freida Sheer Blonde - because I'm much more blonde in my mind than the top of my head shows. It can't hurt can it?

11. And just to counter Ber's first question from last week.... What's the hottest temps you have experienced? Last year we had a heat wave strike our normally foggy and cool coast. My little town hit 118F one of the days. We don't normally need air conditioning. Sweltering is a great word.

Thursday Thunks - 1/15/09
1. Whats the coldest temps you've experienced?
It was pretty cold when we travelled to North Dakota last March to bury Gigi. I don't remember the temperatures (selective amnesia?) but it was in the teens.
2. Whats for dinner tonight?
We're cleaning out the pantry and freezer. Probably some soup amongst other things.
3. Would you consider this job in Australia?
For sure. Conditions would be that Surferman and Grom would have to come with me and I'd have to be able to get a leave of absence from my employment. I'd want my job back when I return from paradise.
4. What was your favorite subject in high school?
Wow, that's tough. I liked school, but don't remember liking anything better than anything else.
5. How many hours a day is your tv on?
average 2 hr /day.
6. Have you ever received an award?
We won a 1st place trophy in our town's 4th of July Parade. The parade is a big deal. We were stoked to win. We had GIANT puppets.
7. Whats your mousepad look like?
No mousepad - Macbook.
9. How many browser tabs do you have open right now?
Five.
10. If you are a parent, have you or did you ever put Vicks VapoRub on your children under the age of 2?
I used Baby Vicks on Grom, but never under his nose. Lately we've been putting it on feet. It really helps with coughs.
11. If you had to pick one insect to infest your house for 1 day and after that day they would just suddenly vanish, which insect infestation would you pick?
Butterflies would be so pretty. But I think the question regards a pesty insect... I'd have to pick locust. Maybe they'd eat my clutter and leave me with a clean slate to start. It would also be interesting and bring Exodus to life to experience a plague of locusts.
13. What was the last think you watched on tv? The Mentalist. It was pretty bloody. It's probably coming off my list of shows I watch.
14. What are your plans for the 4th of July this year?
July? ummm... I'm trying to get through January. I'm guessing it'll have something to do with the parade mentioned before and church and lots of fun.
15. Tell us about one absolutely wonderful thing that happened to you as a teenager and every time you think of it, it brings a smile to your face.
I don't remember how old I was. I was driving. My parents let me take a summer job in Beverly Hills. It was about an hour drive on a congested rush hour freeway. I don't remember the job much, but I remember the feeling of freedom and trust that my parents gave me.
16. What product could you sell someone based on your love for it?
Organizing Bags. There are a million uses. You need these.
(I edited out a couple of questions that I didn't want to answer (TMI) or weren't relevant. Unlike the 4 year old I live with I can count quite well and I realize some numbers are missing).
Thursday Thunks (TT) is a blog meme for those who need a little kick in the butt to find something to post about. I found out about it on a blog last week and thought it might go along with my Daybook posts as another way to get a glimpse of what my life is like. Head over there and play along if you want.
